Was the paint on instrument codes luminous or not?

Beitrag von baturavgan »

Hello all,

Does anybody know whether luminous paint (Leuchtfarbe) were used in the indicator codes which were brush painted on the instrument panels of Bf 109, Fw 190 or any other WWII German aircraft? A 1943 Focke Wulf factory blueprint shows that luminous paint were used in the engraved letters of Fw190 cockpit data plates. So, I wonder if such a practice was also applied to the instrument codes.

It should be mentioned that the L1 and L2 codes on the 109G panel at NASM does not glow.

Regards. Batur

Hello Batur,
the hand-painted codes (like L1, L2 and so on) where carried out with White (or sometimes red) Color.
They were not louminous.

Thanks Harald. The white paint on my G-10 panel doe snot glow either but this Focke Wulf print confused my mind. I wonder if anybody has the Messerschmitt blueprint for the instrument codes, or the blueprint number.

Regards, Batur
