Messerschmitt Bf109G-10/U4 panel

Beitrag von baturavgan »

Here are some photos of the Messerschmitt Bf 109G-10/U4 instrument panel which I have recently produced. As in the original wartime Bf 109G panels, I used 30-layer/15 mm plywood on the main panel (gerätetafel) and 26-layer/32 mm plywood on the carrier panel (gerätetafel-träger). The curved plywood extension at the rear of the panel was made from 5 layers of veneers (each 0.6 mm thick) glued together with tegofilm similar to the original Bf 109 panels. The curved shape of this piece was given on metal forming mold which is later heated in an oven.

I applied RLM66 paint made by Farben-Kiroff-Technik and compared the RLM66 color with an original wartime Bf 109G-10 instrument panel piece from my collection. It was a perfect match. Altitude warning light opening was covered with an old cloth patch similar to the one seen on Bf 109G-10/U4 WNr 611943's instrument panel.

I clipped paint at the edges and also did fading around some areas by using different chemicals, after examining the detailed photos of Bf 109G-10/U4 WNr 611943's instrument panel to check the location and amount of paint loss. I applied the same weathering pattern, though much more moderately.

I produced this panel for a German collector living in Latvia. He already had a replica G-10 panel that had been manufactured by a German producer in 2016. However because he was very frustrated with it due to its low quality and significant inaccuracy issues, he asked me to produce a G-10/U4 panel for him immediately after he received his panel in 2016. Sadly, it was hard to arrange time for me until recently. I have not been producing panels for years and this one was one of the first after a long time. It was lots of fun.

Hope you enjoy the photos.

very good work. Bf 109 G-5, G6, G-14 and G-10, the only difference to / U4 is the tachometer U4 would have been electrical.

Thanks Harald.

Did the U4 use Fl.20269?

What about the G-10/AS? Did it use conventional Fl.20222-3 or another one?

Batur

This is correct for U4. There was only G-10, there was no AS. Everyone else except U4 had it FL 20 222-3

Yes, very good reproduction of a late G-Panel (as usual from your side) Batur!
The difference to "normal" G-5 and G-6 can be seen also in the cut-out of the MW-50 switch and the, more or less, absence of mill-outs on the back.
Well done.

MW50 switch is correct. The millings were different depending on the company. WNF, MttR or Erla!

Hello Batur,
Yes, the /U4 versions of the G used the Fl 20269, because mechanical drive of the Tachometer was not possible, due to Installation of MK108 and their ammunition-belt case.
But Fl 20269 was also used for the G-12 in front and rear, because electrical Signal is better to double than mechanical drive.

When we believe the books of Prien/Rodeike and H.H.Vogt, there were some G-10AS built in the Erla-range, due to shortage of the DB605D. So they had to use the DB605AS instead.

G-12, right front and rear FL 20 269 It was installed.
in G-10 as in K-4 in the emergency DB 605 AS. The installation did not change the type. There was no G-10 \ AS G-10, G-10 / U4, G-10 / R2, G-10 / R6.
